The Huntingdon & Northstowe Hockey Club kicked off their first game back after Christmas with a spectacular 6-1 victory over Cambridge University.
Both teams were eager to burn off the holiday indulgences, but it was clear from the start that Huntingdon had the edge.
The first half was a display of relentless energy and determination. Huntingdon took the lead with an early goal that immediately boosted their confidence. Cambridge University, however, was quick to retaliate, scoring a goal of their own.
Undeterred, Cora put Huntingdon back in the lead with a well-placed shot, followed by two more swift goals from Amy and Emily, which left the opposition reeling.
The second half saw Cambridge University come out strong, showcasing quick passes and fluid movement. Yet, Huntingdon’s defense remained steadfast, effectively thwarting any attempts to close the gap. Building on this defensive solidity, Huntingdon launched several promising attacks. Emily’s brilliant run to latch onto a long ball and take on the goalie resulted in another thrilling goal. To cap off the performance, Huntingdon netted one final goal towards the end from a short corner, cementing the score at 6-1.
Overall, it was a fantastic display from Huntingdon, setting a positive tone for the rest of the season. With teamwork and skill, they showed that they are a force to be reckoned with on the field.
